World's First Software NFT Is Auctioned Off
In a first of its kind, a piece of open source software is being auctioned off as an NFT. It also has the potential for being the world’s most meta crypto project!
Back in March, Mint Fund launched a crypto crowd-sourcing project to fund additional development for the Zora Protocol. Zora provides a software development kit (SDK) that enables developers to build tools which mint NFTs. It’s accessible to many developers as the code is written in Typescript (a strictly-typed Javascript language) in contrast to the more difficult to understand Ethereum-native Solidity language.
So far the development kit has fairly basic functionality and the team wanted to expand it. They wanted to add auction functionality which is something that’s popular on many NFT marketplaces (OpenSea, Nifty Gateway, etc).
In order to accomplish this they asked the community to fund the development of this project. It was a success and nearly $14,000 was raised (7 ETH). In exchange for buying into the crowdfund project, funders were rewarded with $BOUNTY tokens. Those token holders in turn had access to a number of benefits.
One of those benefits includes a revenue share from today’s auction which was built using the newly developed code. I told you this was meta!
While I have never built anything using the Zora protocol the SDK is both minimalist and accessible which makes it quite compelling. Clearly there is a growing community that feels the same way as they have bid up the NFT so far to approximately $6,000 (3 ETH).
If you’re interested in purchasing the world’s first software NFT, head over to the auction page and place your bid.
