Pussy Riot Announces Collab With Justin Aversano

During a Q&A session in the Cryptopunk Discord, PussyRiot member Nadya Tolokonnikova announced a partnership with Justin Aversao’s non-profit Save Art Space to support feminist, trans, and query communities. The target date at the installation is July 2021.

Here is the full quote:

When we spoke with Justin about this public art project, I thought that while it’s cool to have some billboards in LA and NYC, it’s be so important to come to conservative states with public art and give some support to feminist, trans, and queer communities over there.

We’re thinking July 2021, and I want to reach out to my artist friends like a gender-bending pop star Dorian Electra, post disability bionic artist Viktoria Modesta, and one and only Arca to collab with me and Justin on creating visions for more inclusive and equal, post-gender future.

The original source of inspiration apparently was from a 2019 show in Birmingham, Alabama where they organized a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. The experience “made me think that if I’m making projects in the US, it’s important to go beyond big liberal cities and come to territories where people like me (progressive people I guess) need support.”

During the conversation, Nadya emphasized her commitment to the crypto scene. She stated that she’s “definitely not up for just jumping in for the hype and running away.” She was looking for advice from others how to demonstrate that. I would argue that her participation in the CryptoPunks discord was definitely a great step.
